I had a minor legal matter in Henderson County, Texas for which I retained the services of (then) Mayo Mendolia & Starr, L.L.P. I was told that the cost would be $3,000, and an additional $1,500 if the matter went to trial. I paid a $4,500 retainer up front and was told that the trial fee would be returned if unused.

For the first three months, each time I called I was told that the attorney had not received the materials from the prosecutor, had not had time to go to the Henderson County courthouse, etc. Eventually, I was notified that my case would be concluded if I agreed to pay a fine, and that I would not even have to travel to Henderson County to appear in court, everything could be handled via mail.

At the conclusion of my case I requested the return of the trial fee. Apparently, the trial fee is not returned if it takes longer than90 days to conclude the matter. Amazingly enough, the attorney in my case didn't have time to discover the facts of the case until after the expiration of the 90 day period.

Such unscrupulous and underhanded behavior would be expected from a convicted felon, but to have a 'respectable' attorney firm cheat me in such a blatant manner is beyond the pale. If you are looking for an honest, respectable firm to handle your legal matters then my advice would be to keep looking beyond Mayo Mendolia & Vice, L.L.P.
