Gaming systems are a popular area of exploitation by disreputable gaming companies. Many parents of kids who play game systems regularly have already purchased a useless game or two that cannot be returned.
Square Enix Co., Ltd., also known as simply Square Enix, with corporate headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, develops, publishes and distributes entertainment content including interactive entertainment software and publications in Asia, North America and Europe. Square Enix owns one of Japan’s best-selling franchises - FINAL FANTASY, which has sold over 75 million units worldwide. Square Enix is one of the most influential providers of digital entertainment content in the world and continues to push the boundaries of dishonorable company policies and hiring disrespectful and insulting employees.
The dishonorable Square Enix, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Square Enix Co., Ltd. with offices in Los Angeles, California, El Segundo, California and Seattle, Washington. Square Enix, Inc. handles operations in North America, including development, localization, marketing, and publishing of Square Enix titles. It is these marketing tactics which are disrepuatable and dishonorable. There is no honor in stealing people's money, as there can be no honor for the company which chooses to operate in such a manner.
Square Enix will rip you off and then be extremely rude to you on the phone. As an example, Square Enix in El Segundo, California has an employee who said his name was Joe and that his employee number was 6273. That is one rude and obnoxious bastard. Any company who would employ someone like Joe No. 6273 no honor. There is no honor in being disrespectful and rude.
Not accidentally, but rather intentionally Square Enix swindled me out of a little more than $75. That isn't a lot of money. I submit, however, that it is the very principle of the matter which requires recompense. Taking money without providing any usable product or benefit is tantamount to theft. Square Enix has taken my money and I have absolutely nothing usable to show for it. I have a game that will not play unless I pay a further continuous monthly fee, which is a lot more than I already pay for an XBox Live! Gold subscription. This fact was NOT CLEARLY MARKED on the packaging. I was told by a Best Buy store employee that the game would play on an XBox Live! Gold subscription.
An hour later when I had discovered that no, it will not play with an XBox Live! Gold subscription. Instead it simply says to enter a credit card number and subscribe to their online service. There is no amounts displayed on this screen for how much they will charge monthly. I find this to be very deceptive and designed to simply screw people. Why not proudly display the cost of your service before asking someone to pay for it.
I looked online and couldn't find any pricing for their online service. I told my son that I wasn't putting in my credit card number until I had some idea of the costs and terms of the service. I took the game immediately back to the store. Since it had been opened, Best Buy refused to refund my money on the Final Fantasy XI game that won't play on an XBox 360 without also paying for a proprietary subscription service every month. Best Buy lied and said the game would play on an XBox Live! Gold subscription. They should have refunded my money on the strength of that fact alone. Best Buy makes a lot of money refusing returns.
The game sucks and my child only played it for a few days. When I called their support line the rude employee laughed and said that it was their company policy to never refund money. He basically told me I had no recourse in the matter.
I guess he wasn't expecting anyone to put up a sucks page for each and every Square Enix corporate board member. I hope someone calls me and asks me to take the pages down so I can laugh at them in return.
