Paul Cicala, sportscaster for KVOA, and NBC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona tweeted his belief that a woman who was physically assaulted by Democrat anti-Trump protesters was responsible for the assault because she was wearing a shirt with the word "Trump" on it.
As a testament to the kind of person Paul Cicala is in real life, here is the text of his original tweet (he has since deleted his Twitter account):
Here is a screenshot of the actual tweet taken before Cicala deleted his Twitter account: When Cicala received criticism of his tweet, he responded to clarify his thoughts: Paul Cicala "@Cernovich not ok my friendthose (sic) protesters are definitely wrong. But, she has to be careful egging them on or she sets herself up for that." Here is a screenshot of Cicala's tweet regarding criticism of his original tweet taken before Cicala deleted his Twitter account: Following a torrential amount of online anger, around noon KVOA issued a KVOA statement regarding Paul Cicala Tweet, and several hours later Paul Cicala posted Paul Cicala's statement on Tweet, which included a video of him claiming to regret his comments. Many see both statements as actually #SorryNotSorry, neither one mentions his obvious bias and his stated regret included facial expressions that didn't seem to be very regretful at all. It could be said that he appears to only regret the backlash, and that his obvious bias will remain. It would appear that Mr. Cicala has a friend in KVOA, one can assume that there do not exist any conservatives in that "news" organization.
Paul Cicala, Sportscaster KVOA Tucson, AZ Ironically, on one of his Facebook pages (he has two Facebook pages), he has an image of himself in front of a large tile mural that says "be kind". |
